Arriving in the United States in 1959 from his native Denmark Erik Gronborg (b. 1931) traveled to California to begin a long and influential career as an artist and educator. Working in ceramics, metal and wood Gronborg approached each medium with a particular vision, unique to that individual material. With this unique piece, exhibited at his 2017 retrospective at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, California, Gronborg combines the functionality of a low table with his love of the human form.
