Robert Goodnough 'Caltap IV' Wool Tapestry
Robert Goodnough 'Caltap IV' Wool Tapestry
American painter Robert Goodnough (1917-2010) was a member of the revolutionary, mid-20th century group of artists known as the Abstract Expressionists. In this hand-knotted and sculpted, wool pile interpretation of his work titled 'Caltap IV' Goodnough exchanges the exuberant colors for which he is known for blacks, whites and grays with more muted tones of color. His signature is woven into the lower right hand corner of the tapestry. A canvas sleeve is attached to the backing to facilitate hanging. Work by Robert Goodnough can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian American Museum of Art.
