Artist David Shapiro (American, 1944-2014) was highly influenced by Eastern concepts of philosophy and self realization. This untitled 1977 work on paper, a combination of painting, drawing, stamping and collage, could on one hand, represent a vast celestial constellation or, on the other, a meditation of the inner self. Shapiro's works can be seen in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, MOMA, the Guggenheim, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Chicago Art Institute and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
