Hungarian-born Frenchman Mathieu Matégot, (1910-2001) left behind a successful career designing furniture and in the early 1960s devoted himself exclusively to the creation of tapestries. In this singular stitched tapestry titled 'La Forêt Petriei' we see Matégot's 20th century interpretation of the classic verdure tapestries of the 17th and 18th centuries. Stitched 'Matégot' on the lower left, with the craftspersons initials 'itf' on the lower right.
