Jack Zajac 'Bound Goat Thursday' Bronze Sculpture

$28,000.00

Titled 'Bound Goat, Thursday' this bronze by Californian Jack Zajac (born 1929) is numbered 4 in an edition of 6. In 1954, having been awarded the prestigious Rome Prize in painting by the American Academy in Rome, Zajac started playing with clay left over in his Roman studio and his life as a sculptor began. On his travels throughout Italy and North Africa he became fascinated with the goats and sheep he saw in the fields and markets and these became the subject of his earliest sculptures. Though cast in bronze, one of the strongest and most durable of traditional sculpting mediums, there is an almost balletic lightness to these early figures, at once representational and, at the same time, abstract.
