Known primarily as a potter associated with the 1970s California Funk movement, Danish-American artist Erik Grønborg (b. 1931), also did extensive work in wood and cast metal. While his ceramic pieces are light hearted and playful, his wood sculptures exhibit an almost primitive rawness and his cast-metal pieces are a combination of both, playful AND primitive. His ingenious use of oversized wooden dovetails combined with a cast aluminum lid make this box a showcase for of his multiple skills.
