Paul Soldner (American, 1921-2011) was an early pupil of legendary, abstract expressionist potter Peter Voulkos. He also did pioneering work in raku, the 16th century technique which embraces accidental imperfections resulting from specific firing techniques. In this untitled vessel, numbered 84-69, we see both the result of Soldner's mastery of the raku process and the Voulkos's influence. Paul Soldner's work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles and the Museum of Arts and Design, New York City.
