Known primarily as a potter associated with the 1970s California Funk movement, Danish-American artist Erik Grønborg (b. 1931), also did extensive work in wood and cast metal. While his ceramic pieces are light hearted and playful, his wood sculptures exhibit an almost primitive rawness and his cast-metal pieces are a combination of both, playful AND primitive. In this aluminum box Grønborg combines the organic topography of the hinged lid with imagery reflected in Pop Art movement of the 1960s.
