In 1968, Sheron Francis (American, b.1940) moved to NYC, birthplace a decade earlier of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Considered to be among the second generation of abstract expressionists, Francis exhibited at the prestigious André Emmerich and Tibor de Nagy galleries and at the Whitney Biennale in 1973. in this 1977 painting titled 'Grey Ghost' she uses the recently developed acrylic and gel mediums to create form and texture in the style which would become known as Lyrical Abstraction.
